FAQs
-
Not at all. If you can use Google Maps or Spotify, you can use this. You simply open the VoiceMap app, select the tour, and hit "Start." Then you put your phone away. The app does the rest, speaking to you automatically when you reach specific locations.
-
No! Please don’t. That’s the beauty of our GPS technology. The audio cues are timed perfectly to the landscape. We’ll tell you “Look to your left at that red barn” or “Turn right at the upcoming stop sign.” Keep your eyes on the road and let us be your co-pilot.
-
Absolutely. You are on your own schedule. If you see a café (or a view) you like, just stop (or pull over if you are on a driving tour). The tour will pause or simply wait for you to start moving again. You can stop for 10 minutes or 10 days—the tour resumes exactly where you left off.

The technology is based on location, not time. If you get stuck in traffic, the audio waits for you. If you are cruising along, the next track will trigger as soon as you hit the GPS coordinate. That said, we always recommend driving the speed limit for the safest experience (and the best timing).
-
Yes! VoiceMap has a "Virtual Mode" that lets you listen to the stories and see the map locations from your couch. It’s a great way to re-live a trip or plan for a future one.
-
No. We highly recommend downloading the tour over WiFi (at home or your hotel) before you start.
-
Yes. As long as you downloaded the tour beforehand, the GPS works independently of cell towers. You can be deep in the redwoods or on a lonely stretch of coast, and the story will keep playing.
-
Using GPS does use battery power. For driving tours, we recommend plugging your phone into your car charger. For walking tours, starting with a full charge is usually plenty, but bringing a portable battery pack is never a bad idea for long days of exploring.
-
Simple economics. Apple and Google take a massive cut of sales in their stores. When you buy directly from our website, we pass those savings on to you. You get the exact same tour on the exact same app, but for a lower price.
-
